Fernando Cortes ordinances, 1524 Mar. 20.

Manuscript of ordinances made by Cortes in the city of Tenochtitlan (Temistitan / Mexico City) for the inhabitants of New Spain prescribe the rule and conversion to Christianity of the Indians, crops to be planted, residence requirements for Spaniards holding Indian slaves, and include an ordinance perpetuating the control of Indian slaves unto heirs of existing owners. Also included are maps showing the travels of Cortes in Mexico (1519 and 1524), North America and the Caribbean (circa 1700), and a plan of the city of Tenochtitlan.
